Hatha Yoga Asanas
Yoga asanas are one part of the Hatha Yoga teachings.
Hatha Yoga is a part of the Raja Yoga Path.
Ha-Tha means, sun and moon. The practices of Hatha yoga includes the exact steps of Raja Yoga.
The goal of Hatha Yoga is to purify the physical body and the energy body and force a union between the sun energy or the masculine energy and the moon energy or the feminine energy.
This union leads to the state of meditation and samadhi. Where knowledge of the Self is realized and wisdom is bestowed upon the individual. A state in which the ego sense of "I" Mearges within the all pervading consciousness, sense of "I". A state in which life truly begins.
In short... In Hatha Yoga we use the body as the instrument for purification and the achievements of higher states of consciousness.

But... There is nothing like how you feel after practice! How you feel when you finally take your first deep breath... For me, that was the hook. After 18 years of living i was taking my beginners yoga course and had to run to the bus station to catch my last bus. and on the way it happened I had a profound experience of what it means to take a deep breath and what it means to be alive. Everything opened up inside of me and I was hooked. For some it is the way it effects their moods for others it is the lost flexibility that is regained but no matter what is your experience. Your feeling about your experience are the most important thing for you. So there is only one way to find out if Yoga Asanas are the right vehicle for you...
